Three species of the genus Heterorhabdus Giesbrecht are known in the Mediterranean Sea: H. papilliger Claus, H. spinifrons Claus and H. abyssalis Giesbrecht. The first two species are common but the third species is exceptional and was recorded in only two sectors, as we will see below. Many specimens belonging to these three species were identified in the samples from the expedition on board the "Président-Théodore-Tissier" in the north-western Mediterranean Sea in the autumn of 1958. Here we give some details on the morphology and the ecology of these copepods.
